You can have your say on the development of a Film Policy in Tillsonburg
The Town of Tillsonburg is seeking public input as it explores becoming a film-friendly community to attract television and movie productions.
The consultation, which opened February 9th and runs until March 13th, will gather feedback to help shape a proposed Film Policy before it returns to council for consideration.
Town staff first presented a draft policy in October 2024. Council referred it back for public consultation prior to further review.
Municipal officials say Ontario’s screen sector generates significant economic activity, with productions relying on local restaurants, accommodations, trades and services. They say hosting film and television projects can also boost tourism and showcase the community to wider audiences.
“Tillsonburg has a great deal to offer the film industry, from our historic assets and scenic spaces to our supportive community and convenient location,” Mayor Deb Gilvesy said in a statement, adding that filming could create new revenue opportunities for sites such as Annandale House and Lake Lisgar.
The town’s Film-Friendly Community Survey invites feedback on potential benefits and concerns, interest from property owners and businesses, and suggestions for possible filming locations, including residential, commercial, agricultural and heritage properties.
Two public engagement sessions are also planned: an in-person open house February 24th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Tillsonburg Community Centre Lion’s Den, and a virtual information session March 5th from 4 to 5 p.m. Details will be posted on the town’s website and social media channels.
Following the consultation, staff will compile feedback and present a report with recommendations to council for consideration.
