Thames Valley says the results will help guide updates to its Student Achievement Plan.
The Thames Valley District School Board is reporting significant progress in student achievement, with newly released 2024–25 EQAO results showing the board’s highest reading and math performance since provincial assessments were modernized three years ago.
In elementary grades, both reading and math scores improved among Grade 3 and 6 students, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen early literacy and numeracy. Grade 6 results showed the most substantial growth, with 82% of students meeting the provincial standard in reading, 81% in writing and 50% in math. The board attributes these gains to enhanced instructional strategies, targeted interventions, and consistent monitoring of student progress across all schools.
Grade 3 students also demonstrated notable improvements in reading and math, though writing scores dipped slightly compared to last year. The board says this area will receive additional attention in upcoming school-based planning, with administrators reviewing the data to pinpoint needs and adjust supports.
Secondary results followed a similar trend. Grade 9 students recorded their strongest math outcomes since modernization, with 52% meeting the provincial standard — a five-point increase over last year. The improvement aligns with the board’s ongoing Math Action Plan, which includes dedicated staff support, expanded use of digital learning tools, and a focus on high-impact teaching practices in priority schools.
Thames Valley says the results will help guide updates to its Student Achievement Plan, which centres on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes across all grade levels. Families will receive individual EQAO reports for their children as schools review the data in the coming weeks.
