MPs have passed Prime Minister Mark Carney’s first budget in a tight 170-168 vote, preventing a possible holiday election.
Support came from all Liberal MPs and Green Leader Elizabeth May.
Four MPs abstained, giving the minority government the edge it needed.
Because the budget was a confidence matter, a loss could have triggered a federal campaign.
