West Elgin Secondary School closed next week after fire, remote learning continues

School officials confirm that the building is expected to reopen after the two-week winter break.

West Elgin Secondary School will remain closed next week following a fire that occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, December 10.

School officials say the closure will allow cleanup and recovery work to continue safely inside the building. No in-person classes will take place during the week of December 15.

Remote learning will continue for the week of December 15. West Elgin Secondary School staff will provide additional details on lesson plans, school activities, and expectations in a follow-up message.

The closure is temporary and will not extend beyond the winter holidays. School officials confirm that the building is expected to reopen after the two-week winter break, on Monday, January 5.

Administrators thank students, families, and staff for their patience and cooperation during the closure.
